Birchbox May 2013 Review

It seems like I barely get my last review for Birchbox up before the next one gets sent out. This May, Birchbox’s theme is Beauty Diaries and has a little bonus Twitter contest to win full sizes of everything in your box.

Products laid out. The first thing I notice is the fun amika packaging!

Six products this month. Two amika hair treatments, toothpaste, a mini eyeliner, perfume sample, and a sunscreen sample. Read on for more details.

Sizes of the products. Everything’s so cute and small, especially when compared to the sizes of ipsy’s products.

amika Opliphica Hair Treatment and Opliphica Nourishing Mask | Foil samples usually make me sad because I can usually only get 1 or 2 uses out of them. I have super thick hair so I don’t expect to get 2 uses at this point. These two products have some pretty good reviews and lots of raves about their scent.

Marvis Toothpaste | Made in Italy. Has a strong mint flavor, but is not something I expect to get from a beauty box.

Sumita Color Contrast Eyeliner in Suman (black) | Black eyeliner’s not too exciting, but the quality of Sumita’s liners seem to be high quality and long lasting. I haven’t opened it yet since I have tons of others to try out.

CoTZ Face Natural Skin Tone SPF 40 | I love the idea of a non-greasy sunscreen for your face, since they’re be comfortable enough to wear by itself, or under foundations and moisturizers.

Issac Mizrahi Fabulous Eau de Parfum | Smells of citrus and soft floral.  From Birchbox: “Bright opening notes of citrus, peony, and musk unfold to juicy middle notes of mandarin and nectarine. Top notes of smoky bergamot create depth, while jasmine sambac, tuberose, and peony add a touch of femininity. Warm base notes of vanilla, patchouli, and sandalwood complete the alluring mix.”

Overall, nothing full-sized, but about average Birchbox quality for me. I received about a $1o value this month, which is about the minimum of what I expect from Birchbox. The point system makes Birchbox worth it to me (makes each box about $5 a month) and I know these products will get used up eventually.

Products: 7.5/10 (Eyeliner and CoTZ my favorites this month. I like citrus scents so Fabulous might be a good match for me)
